I have had a few students recently ask if I think they should leave the introduction chapters of their course material out. Here is my answer....
Essay questions focusing on the relationship between actus reus and mens rea are quite common and require the student to have a good grasp of the basic principles (which are often at the beginning of the course material) as well as the ability to discuss the underlying rationale of the law. Breaking them down onto A3 sheets side by side with examples can really help with the understanding and retaining of information.
It is important not to overlook the foundations of criminal liability as part of the revision process as a grasp of this material provides essential foundation and which are building blocks to help you answer a question fully.
